Class 108 Vehicles
M50933 - Driving Motor Brake Second
New to Chester Depot in January 1960 and paired with 51570
After a move around many depots including Haymarket in Scotland
50933 was repainted into BR Green livery in 2002, In 2008 it was purchased by the Dean Forest DMU Group.
Surplus to requirements.
50933 was sold to DMU Group West Midlands and overhauling was then undertaken before 50933 entered regular service in July 2009
It is currently under overhaul of bogies and bodywork at Kidderminster.
M51941 - Driving Motor Brake Second
New to Newton Heath Depot in November 1960 and orignally paired with DMCL 52056.
51941 moved to Buxton in 1986 and was paired with 52064
The two car set was moved from Doncaster to Kidderminster (SVR) by rail via Tyseley.
51941 & 52064 were almost immediately fit for traffic and entered service in October 1991 having been re-liveried into original Green livery.
In 1992 the set was increased to 3 cars with the entry to traffic of 59250.
In 2004, 51941 participated in the very successful Railcar50 event, operating as a 5-car Class 108 which included all of the SVR 108 vehicles.
M52064- Driving Motor Composite Lavatory
New to Newton Heath Depot in March 1961 and paired with 51949
52064 moved to Buxton in 1986 and was paired with 51941
In 1992 the set was increased to 3 cars with the entry to traffic of 59250.
In 2004, it participated in the very successful Railcar50 event, operating as a 5-car Class 108 which included all of the SVR 108 vehicles.
More recently in 2024 it became the first DMU to enter Bridgnorth Paint Shop for contract repainting by the railways resident painter.
M56208- Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory
New to Hammerton Street (Bradford) depot in August 1958 and paired with 50617
56208 stayed in the North until 1987 when it moved to Bristol.
The vehicle was the last of five Class 108 vehicles to be aquired, and enabled the group to form two operating sets, one 2-car and one 3-car.
The vehicle was repainted into BR green and entered service in July 1997.
In 2004, it participated in the very successful Railcar50 event, operating as a 5-car Class 108 which included all of the SVR 108 vehicles.
It is currently under overhaul of bogies and bodywork at Kidderminster.
NE59250-Trailer Brake Second Lavatory
New to South Gosforth Depot in October 1958 and ran in a four car 108 formation.
59250 remained in the north for its working life with spells and Hull Botanic Gardens, Neville Hill and Heaton Depots.
59250 spent alot of the late 1980s in mixed sets with 101 and 110 driving cars.
The vehicle was repainted into BR Green livery, and joined the railway's already operational 2-car 108 set in November 1992.
The area which was formerly used as the guards van has been converted into a buffet bar, named the “Travelling Tavern”.
